Mission and Madness is a story of overcoming stigma and shame that often accompanies those who live with a severe mental health condition. It is a story about defying the odds and  taking an active role in making this world a better place.

 

Mission and Madness is a personal story of Laura Ruth; her life, work and so called
mental illness, that being Schizoaffective Disorder. Schizoaffective Disorder is a combination of experiencing symptoms of both Schizophrenia and Bipolar.

 

Laura has defined her own mental illness and speaks of what it is like to live as a voice hearer.

She has attempted to not only tell her story but address what she believes to be key issues.

Key issues in learning to live with a severe and enduring mental illness; key issues in the recovery process from that illness; and key issues that those with this form of illness face; be it experiences along their journey or the false beliefs, attitudes and mysteries surrounding mental illness.

 

Laura will share with you stories from the mission field during her 20 years of international travels whilst serving others in the midst of disaster and extreme situations. In doing so Laura will tell you about the highs and lows in her relationships and in her work. In this book Laura also considers the interface between mental health and spirituality.

 

It is the hope of the author that this read will encourage you, the reader whoever you may be, and that it will enable others to talk and bring issues into the open without shame or fear.
